Don’t be a Can’t Person

“I can’t.” “I don’t know how.”

If you start from here, you’ll never get going. You’ll wait to be told what to do next. You’ll be stuck with how things were always done. You’ll constantly be checking in to see whether it’s good enough based on someone else’s judgement. You might end up delivering something satisfactory, but you’ll have learned nothing… other than if you drag your feet and complain enough someone will do the thinking for you. This type of attitude is career limiting.

“I’m not sure, but I’ll figure it out” is perhaps the most valuable attitude to have for any professional whether green or battle-hardened. These professionals will be trusted again and again with getting to the bottom of a problem, developing solutions and pulling rabbits out of hats.

I’ve built my career on “I’ll figure it out”. As a professional in the Medical Device Industry for 20+ years I started out as an assembler, obtained senior positions and now I’m leveraging this as an entrepreneur.

There’s a lot I don’t know how to do, YET!
