Reserve the Right to Get Smarter

You’re going to make mistakes. If you’re pro-active and continuously looking to push the envelope, you’ll make a lot of mistakes. Any coach will tell you that you learn more from your loses than your wins.

In some cases, you may make decisions that seemed reasonable at the time but after some reflection and experience you realize that you could have made a better call. Sometimes this might seem to colleagues as inconsistent or flip-flopping but you should always reserve the right to get smarter. It makes no sense to be consistent if you’re just going to repeat the same behavior. You owe it to yourself and your team to make the best possible decision.

The core of being a pragmatic leader is always make decisions based on the latest information and new perspectives.

The world continues to change, so should you. Don’t stay stuck in old grooves, carve new paths and you make it to new heights.
